- Samarium has a silver luster that is not significantly tarnished
- under normal room conditions. It can be ignited in air at 150
- degrees, however.
- Samarium is a rare earth that ranks fifth in abundance. It is
- also a member of the lanthanide series of elements: lanthanum (La)
- through lutetium (Lu).
- There are three allotropic forms known at the present time. The
- alpha form exists up to 734 degrees and the beta to 922 degrees.
